What is everyday life like in a small village in Arctic Lapland? This 3.5-hour experience combines a private guided journey through our home village of Kilpisjärvi with a visit to a traditional Sámi family reindeer farm.
A Scenic Journey Through Our Home Village
The experience begins with a scenic journey through Kilpisjärvi in a snowmobile passenger sledge driven by your local guide.
Along the way, we make several stops to enjoy the surrounding landscapes and take photographs. Your guide introduces you to everyday life in this remote Arctic village and shares personal stories about local traditions and the changing seasons.
The village journey offers a glimpse into local life before we continue to the reindeer farm, where Sámi culture and reindeer herding become the main focus of the experience.
Sámi Culture and Reindeer Herding at Tornensis Reindeer Farm
Tornensis Reindeer Farm is a traditional family farm where knowledge of reindeer herding has been passed down through generations.
A member of the Sámi family welcomes you and tells you about Sámi culture, reindeer herding, and the close relationship between people, animals, and the Arctic environment. The stories and knowledge shared during the visit are based on the family’s own life and experience.
Meet and Feed the Reindeer
At the farm, you can meet the reindeer at close range and help feed them one of their favorite foods: lichen.
This peaceful encounter gives you time to observe the animals and learn about their importance to Sámi culture and everyday life in Lapland.
Private Guiding and a Shared Farm Visit
The village journey and guiding are private for your own party, allowing time for questions, conversation, and photography.
Please note that Tornensis Reindeer Farm welcomes several groups, and other visitors will usually be present during the farm visit. Your guide remains with you throughout the experience.
