Looking for a snowmobiling experience without the crowds? This private guided tour to the iconic Three Country Cairn offers you and your travel companions a peaceful and personalized journey through Arctic landscapes, far from the hustle of large group departures.
You will ride across the frozen Lake Kilpisjärvi and into the snow covered wilderness, guided by an experienced local guide. You may choose between driving your own snowmobile in the self drive option or travelling as a passenger in the guide’s snowmobile sledge.
This private experience is ideal for couples, families with children aged ten years and older, and small groups of friends. It is also a great choice for first time snowmobilers who may feel nervous about joining shared group tours.
We keep the group size small for safety and enjoyment. Up to four persons may participate on self drive snowmobiles, with two persons sharing one snowmobile and taking turns driving and riding as a passenger. In addition, up to six persons can join the tour as passengers in the guide’s sledge. This private tour offers you personal guidance throughout the journey, all the way to the border point where Finland, Sweden, and Norway meet.
Before Departure Towards the Three-Country Cairn
The tour begins at the lakeshore in Kilpisjärvi village. Before setting off, your guide will give a clear and comprehensive introduction to snowmobile driving and safety. If you are sharing a snowmobile, you will take turns driving and riding as a passenger. The non driver may also ride in the guide’s sled and enjoy the surrounding scenery.
Across the Frozen Lake Kilpisjärvi to the Edge of Three Nations
You will ride across the vast frozen surface of Lake Kilpisjärvi toward the border point located just outside the Malla Nature Reserve, Finland’s oldest protected nature area. A few scenic stops are made along the way, giving you time to enjoy the Arctic landscape and take photographs. At the destination, you will explore a truly special place where three countries and two time zones meet. There are no border checks, only pure wilderness.
Important Information for Snowmobile Drivers
To drive a snowmobile, the driver must be at least eighteen years old and hold a valid driver’s licence that entitles them to drive a car in Finland. The permitted driver age range is eighteen to sixty nine years. A damage deposit is required to cover any potential damage to the snowmobile.
