Kilpisjärvi off season, Northern Lights in season
The best thing about Kilpisjärvi, from the point of view of the Northern Lights hunter, is that according to statistics, Aurora Borealis appear more frequently here than anywhere else in Lapland.
What's needed is a clear sky, a good vantage point away from artificial lights, and a bit of luck. Northern Lights can be observed in Kilpisjärvi from late August when the nights turn dark after the white nights of summer until early April when the night time begins to be filled with light again.
The duration of our evening tour is 3 hours and it is organized until permanent snow covers the ground and we launch our winter experiences, which normally takes place in late November.
Storytelling around open fire
From times immemorial humans have gathered around an open fire to exchange information. We'll follow this age-old tradition and spend a Finnish-style fireside evening.
A walk to the edge of the village takes us to a camp site which offers an open view towards the northern sky. Your guide builds an open fire and we'll enjoy tasty local snacks and hot beverages while sharing stories of life in Lapland. All evening we'll keep an eye out for the dance of the Northern Lights.
